When performed in the outpatient setting, patients can usually return home after the procedure. The technique for this procedure involves inserting the arthroscope, a small tube that contains lenses, and optical fiber, through tiny incisions in the skin into the joint to be examined. This instrument connected to a video camera and the interior of the joint is seen on a television monitor.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Shoulder arthroscopy is a type of surgery to examine and repair the tissues around your shoulder joint. This procedure uses a small camera, called an arthroscope, that is inserted through tiny incision. If the doctor is going to repair the joint, small surgical instruments are also used. Through several small incisions about 1 centimeter each your surgeon will insert a camera into one incision, and small instruments through the other incisions. The surgeon makes a small incision, about one-quarter inch 0.25 inches long, near the shoulder joint. A small camera is then inserted into the joint. The camera is attached to a video monitor to allow the surgeon to see inside the joint.  </p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Arthroscopy also called arthroscopic surgery is a minimally invasive surgical procedure. Using an arthroscope a physical examination of the interior of a joint is performed. Arthroscopic processes are performed either to treat or to evaluate, many orthopedic conditions including torn floating cartilage, torn surface cartilage, ACL reconstruction and trimming damaged cartilage. In arthroscopy the joint does not have to be opened up fully. Instead, only two small incisions are made that is the benefit of arthroscopy over traditional open knee surgery. It decreases the recovery time of the patient and may increase the rate of surgical success due to less trauma to the connective tissue. It is particularly useful for professional athletes, who often injure knee joints and require fast healing time. And because of smaller incisions, there is also less scarring. The surgical instruments utilized are smaller than traditional instruments. Surgeons examine the joint area on a video monitor, and can diagnose and repair torn joint tissue, such as ligaments and menisci. Arthroscopy is applied for joints of the knee, shoulder, elbow, wrist, ankle and hip.</p>

It is usually performed for treating with damaged meniscus cartilage, reconstruction of the anterior cruciate ligament and for cartilage micro-fracturing. Arthroscopy can also be executed just for diagnosing and checking of the knee. Nevertheless, the later use has been mainly replaced by magnetic resonance imaging. Arthroscopy is useful in assessing and dealing with conditions such as torn floating cartilage (meniscus), the cartilage is trimmed to a stable rim or occasionally repaired, torn surface (articular) cartilage, removal of loose bodies (cartilage or bone that has broken off) and cysts, reconstruction of the Anterior Cruciate ligament , Patello-femoral (knee-cap) disorders, washout of infected knees and general diagnostic purposes. After a knee arthroscopy, recovery is a lot faster compared to arthrotomy. Most patients can return home and walk using crutches the same or the next day after the surgery. Usually after a month a patient can fully load his leg and after a few weeks the joint function can fully recover. It is common for athletes who have a beyond average physical condition to return to normal athletic activities within a few weeks. Nonetheless, the recovery time also depends on the diagnosis that the arthroscopy was performed for, thus each case is unique and the patient must consult his personal doctor and physician regarding his physiotherapy.</p>
